Over the last 5 years we have been creating cultural food projects that aim to shift the gastronomic culture of the city.
Three years ago we co-founded Street Food Thursday, Germany’s first Street Food Market that has supported more than 100 small businesses and feeds thousands of Berliners and visitors on a weekly basis.
The aim of this project was to stimulate innovation in the culinary scene in Germany by supporting young people with innovative ideas to start a business. At the same time we created the opportunity for them to share their culture & creativity with the rest of Berlin.
Street Food Thursday is an ongoing success and in 2013 we were awarded a prize for Gastronomic Innovation by the city of Berlin.
Based on these learnings we are now embarking on a new project.
In the coming years we will open the first market hall in Germany dedicated to the food cultures of Diaspora communities in Germany. SOUK BERLIN will celebrate the culinary diversity that all immigrants – new and old – have brought with them to this vibrant city.
Our objectives are:
- Celebrate & elevate Diaspora food culture that continues to shape and transform German food identities
- Create a platform to exchange knowledge and inspire and share culture
- Forge a community space to connect people through the love of good food
The vision is to have a market hall in a public square that incorporates fixed and temporary food businesses – and acts as a meeting point for the wider Berlin community.
Over the next few years we will be focusing on community building projects. We will host dinners, temporary markets, festivals and roaming restaurants that will give you a taste of SOUK BERLIN.
